Minimum Marks required to apply:

Consistently good academic record with 60% (GPA 6.5/10) marks in undergraduate and post graduate examinations. For applying for Ph.D. in medical specialties, the candidate must have a post graduate qualification with minimum 60% marks (First Class) in MBBS.

Individual with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) obtained on the basis of a national level test (UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT) or INSPIRE only need apply and selection will be based on Interview.

For any area of research under Health Science Studies, candidates will be selected on the basis of a written test and interview

Indus University Ahmedabad notifies PhD admissions 2014

Indus University, Ahmedabad announces admission to Ph.D Programme for 2014 session.

Courses offered

Civil / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics & Communication / Mechanical / Metallurgical / Management/ Mathematics / Physics / and Chemistry

Programme Duration: Minimum period of study and research shall not be less than 3 years from the date of provisional registration of the candidate. However, in case of exceptional performance, the period can be reduced with the recommendations of the Apex Research Committee (ARC) and approval of the Executive President

Research Assistantship: Research assistance, limited in number, shall be available to full time research scholars, based on recommendation of ARC / DRC

Eligibility Criteria (for Both Full Time & Part Time)

Engineering Streams: ME / M.Tech in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology with 60% marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit. For SC / ST/ OBC candidates it is 55% marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.

BE /B.Tech degree from reputed institutions in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology with75% marks or CGPA of 8.0on a 10 point scale for general merit for SC/ST/OBC candidates it is 55% marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale with minimum 3 years experience in professional environment and / or publications in referred journal.

Science & Humanities Stream: Masters Degree in Science / Computer Application with 60% marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit

Management Stream: MBA /PGDBA/PGDBM from AICTE approved list of institutions / Master Degree in relevant Discipline with 60 % marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit. For SC / ST/ OBC candidates it is 55 % marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.

Note: Exceptionally bright candidates with applicable & relevant notable professional achievements with 55% marks in masters program can also apply. For SC/ST/OBC candidates it is 55 % marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.

Admission Procedure

Applicants fulfilling minimum eligibility criteria, shall be required to take Indus University Research Aptitude Test (IURAT) and appear for a personal interview (PI)

The research aptitude test shall comprise of two sections

One section on general reasoning, and the other on respective streams

The test paper will have multiple-choice type questions. Duration of the test will be ONE hour

During the personal interview, the candidate shall have to make a presentation for about 10 minutes on the main theme of the proposed research, which will be followed by an interview by the panel

The DRC shall test the potential of the applicant for conducting research work

Based on the academic / research / industrial record and the performance of the applicant in IURAT & PI, the ARC/ DRC shall recommend to the Dean (Research)/ Executive President (Vice Chancellor) the names of the suitable candidates

Successful candidates will be informed of their selection through their email ID within two weeks from the date of IURAT & PI

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to appear for PhD Eligibility Test-2014 being conducted by Osmania University in the subjects pertaining to faculties mentioned above, a candidate must have obtained a Postgraduate degree from a recognized university or a Postgraduate degree through distance mode from a recognized university and approved by the concerned authority, in the concerned subject or in an allied subject approved by Osmania University securing not less than 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates)

If the results of Post-Graduate degree are declared in the form of Grades/Credits/Cumulative Grade Points Average (GPA) in their marks cards/Transcripts, such Grades/Points shall be converted into percentage of marks to assess the minimum eligibility criteria

Note: The candidates have to appear in the PhD eligibility test in the subject in which they wish to pursue PhD (For e.g., a candidate with M.Com qualification may pursue PhD in Business Management provided he/she appears and qualifies in the PhD eligibility test in the subject of Business Management)

However, the following categories of the candidates are exempted from appearing in the PhD Eligibility test

1) Those who are awarded research fellowship in a national level test namely UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/ICMR/ICAR/DBT-JRF/INSPIRE fellowship and Teacher Fellowship applicants subject to the clearance by the Dean, CDC, Osmania University

2) Those who are qualified UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/APSET/JEST/GATE/GPAT examinations

3) Those who hold M.Phil degree in regular mode from O.U. in the concerned subject or PhD in an allied subject approved by Osmania University

Ph.D Eligibility Test-2014 – Test Pattern

The eligibility test will be of 90 minutes duration and question paper consists of 100 objective (multiple choice only) type questions

The eligibility test will consist of any 3 or 4 varieties of objective type items such as analogies, classification, matching, comprehension of a research study / experiment / theoretical point of view, etc., with multiple answers besides the usual multiple choice items. The items will be framed only from the syllabus of eligibility test.

Maximum marks for eligibility test: 100 marks

Nature of test: Objective type with multiple choice questions.

Medium of eligibility test: The medium of eligibility test will be English only except for language subjects

Registration Fee: The registration fee for online submission of application is Rs.650/- (Rs.450/- in case of SC/ST/PH candidates). The procedure for payment of Registration fee is available in the website
