Qualification for posts in Elementary Education Department will be as per the applicable National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) norms. 3. Good academic record with at least 55% marks (50% for candidates belonging to SC/ST /Persons with Disability viz. physically and visually disabled or those who passed their Master’s degree prior to 19?09?1991 and hold a Ph.D degree) or an equivalent grade of B in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E & F at the Master’s degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from a foreign University. 4. Candidates must have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC/CSIR or a similar test accredited by the UGC (state level eligibility test SLET/SET). 5. Candidates who are or have been awarded Ph.D. degree in compliance of the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and procedure for awards of M. Phil/ Ph.D. degree), Regulations, 2009 shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET. 6. NET/SLET/SET shall not be required for such Master’s Degree Programme in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET accredited test is not conducted.

Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), Tamil Nadu, announces admission for Ph.D Programme Admission 2015

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates (Indian / Foreigner) who have studied under 10+2+3+2 years pattern or 10+2+5 years or 11+1+3+2 or 12+2+ 3+3 or 10+2+4+2 pattern of education and qualified for the award of the Master’s Degree in relevant discipline in Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University (GRI-DU/GRI) or any other university recognized by the University Grants Commission in relevant discipline with not less than 55% marks (50% for SC/ST and part-time non-teacher candidates) or an equivalent grade are eligible In addition, he / she should have qualified the entrance test conducted by GRI or should have obtained M.Phil or qualified the UGC JRF/NET/SLET/ Lecturership/ GATE / CSIR /ICAR /ICSSR or other fellowships or passed equivalent examinations

A candidate who fulfils the above two conditions is called an eligible candidate.

Categories of Ph.d. Candidates: There shall be three categories of Ph.D. candidates, Full-time Ph.D candidates, Part-time candidates (Internal), Part-time candidates (External)

Procedure for Applying: There shall be two sessions every year for Ph.D registration as hereunder; August-last working day of August; January-last working day of January However, candidates who have passed UGC- JRF/NET/SLET/GATE/CSIR/ ICAR/ ICSSR or those who have been granted fellowships will be admitted any time of the year on producing the required evidence.

Candidate seeking admission to Ph.D programme should get the application form from the deputy registrar (academic) referring to the advertisement with regard to Ph.D admission by remitting the cost of the application at the bank, located on GRI campus.

The filled in application should be submitted on or before the prescribed date.
If the application is downloaded from the website the candidate should remit the cost of application while submitting the application.

Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.

Enterance Test: An entrance test will be conducted by the controller of examinations.

The question paper will be prepared totally for 2 hours; one hour for research aptitude test (general) and one hour for the subject test.

A minimum of 60% in each component is a must to become eligible for provisional admission. Question papers for research aptitude test (general) and subject test will be set and evaluated by a board consisting of the HOD and all the research supervisors.

The process will be coordinated by the controller of examinations.

Progress: After the candidate registers for Ph.D he/she will submit a progress report in the prescribed format (for the period up to 31st June/31st December) to the registrar with the endorsement of the research supervisor once in six months (every July/January irrespective of his/her date of joining) till he/she submits his/her synopsis The progress report will be sent to the registrar with a copy marked to the controller of examinations Full-time research scholars (JRF/SRF) may be assigned teaching work for a maximum of 4 hours per week in the department/faculty without any honorarium.

Fees: This will be decided from time to time by the authorized committee and will be notified Those who have not paid the research fees within the prescribed date have to remit the fees along with the prescribed fine If a candidate has not paid the fee continuously for two years, his/her registration will be cancelled.

Application Form: The application form along with the prospectus can be obtained in person from the Deputy Registrar (Academic), The Gandhigram Rural Institute-Deemed University, Gandhigram-624302, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu on cash payment of Rs.1000/- or through DD for Rs 1000/- drawn in favour of “The Registrar, The Gandhigram Rural Institute”, payable at Canara Bank, Gandhigram (Code 8500) / State Bank of India, Ambathurai (Code 3373) and any Nationalized/Scheduled Bank in Dindigul.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

At least 55% marks or 5.5 CPI marks in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Credits Requirement

IIT Gandhinagar strongly believes in value addition through course work. There is a significant number of course work a Ph.D. student needs to do depending on his/her background. Ph.D. students entering the programme will have to take total credits ranging from 88 through 120, out of which coursework credits (courses worth 4 credits each) can range anywhere between 32 through 64 credits, depending upon the previous degree attained by the student. Out of the minimum credits through coursework, a minimum of 12 credits are required to be completed through project-based courses.
